The great work taking place in Cininnati, Covington and Newport was highlighted in this Crosscut.com article,  "How three cities are solving big problems."  This quote from Strive President Jeff Edmondson speaks to the value of leveraging data effectively to improve outcomes for kids:

The key, says Jeff Edmondson, who led the Strive partnership and is now spreading the gospel nationally (including to Portland and the Seattle area), "is setting a common vision and finding a common language. You can't let people get focused on ideological or political issues....You need a common language to bring people together and that language is the data."

Reading grant to assist CPS tutoring efforts

Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory, along with CPS Superintendent Mary Ronan and The Strive Partnership's Greg Landsman, announced Wednesday that Cincinnati is among eight cities that won a $40,000 grant from Target to help raise third-grade reading levels.  Grant to support 50 tutors helping 100 students read by 3rd grade

East Price Hill – Mayor Mark Mallory, Cincinnati Public Schools Superintendent Mary Ronan, and The Strive Partnership’s Executive Director Greg Landsman announced a new, joint initiative that has won a $40,000 competitive national grant from Cities of Service and Service Nation, funded by Target.  The grant will be used to recruit and train 50 reading tutors who will help 100 students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in 5 targeted schools prepare to meet the 3rd Grade Guarantee.
