Facts Matter community data portal wins first place

The Facts Matter Greater Cincinnati Data Portal, a product of a local collaborative effort, recently won an award for “Best Web-Based GIS App” during the 2012 ESRI International Users Conference in San Diego, CA.  Facts Matter provides the public with data about population demographics, the status of children and youth, education, health, economics and social relations in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region. Other Facts Matter partners include United Way of Greater Cincinnati, The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation, The Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Agenda 360, Vision 2015, The University of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky University, and The Strive Partnership.

Reading grant to assist CPS tutoring efforts

Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory, along with CPS Superintendent Mary Ronan and The Strive Partnership's Greg Landsman, announced Wednesday that Cincinnati is among eight cities that won a $40,000 grant from Target to help raise third-grade reading levels. The money will recruit and train 50 tutors to work with 100 students at Roberts Paideia Academy and four other Cincinnati Public schools where significant numbers of students struggle with reading: Rockdale Academy in Avondale, Mount Airy School, Pleasant Hill Academy in College Hill and Pleasant Ridge Montessori School. Mayor Mallory, Cincinnati Public, and The Strive Partnership Win $40,000 Grant from Target

 Grant to support 50 tutors helping 100 students read by 3rd grade

East Price Hill – Mayor Mark Mallory, Cincinnati Public Schools Superintendent Mary Ronan, and The Strive Partnership’s Executive Director Greg Landsman announced a new, joint initiative that has won a $40,000 competitive national grant from Cities of Service and Service Nation, funded by Target.  The grant will be used to recruit and train 50 reading tutors who will help 100 students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in 5 targeted schools prepare to meet the 3rd Grade Guarantee. The Cincinnati Enquirer has sent out a memo to all Ohio and Kentucky public school students and teachers, asking for their opinion regarding the roll-out of the Common Core Standards.
