Saving and Working
Even students who get financial aid usually will have to pay something for college: a portion of their expected family contribution or the amount they don't want to take out in loans. Money you earn in high school from summer or part-time jobs can help pay some of your costs. Don't let work interfere with your studies, though. Talk to an advisor or counselor about keeping the right balance.
Work-study programs are good ways to earn money during college, as well as to meet new friends and to anchor your schedule. Working can also be stressful and exhausting, and take away from your learning and well-being. Consider the right balance for you before you take a job. Discuss it with an advisor at the college you'd like to attend if you're planning to pay part of the costs by working.
