Vanessa Carlo-Miranda is the Chief Operating Officer at StriveTogether, a national nonprofit working in 70 communities across the United States to enable more than 14 million young people to succeed in school and life.
Vanessa is a strategic leader in the education sector with over 15 years of experience in school, district and state-level education systems. Prior to joining StriveTogether, Vanessa spent a decade as the Chief Financial and Operations Officer for a public charter school in the District of Columbia. There, she served as an expert in DC public education operations, funding and charter school finance.
She began her career working for the National Council of La Raza (now UnidosUS) while attending law school. Later she combined her passion for education and legal training at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), where she led programs to improve public charter school facilities, federal grants management compliance and legal support as Attorney Advisor in the General Counsel’s office.
Vanessa is a graduate of the University of Florida, the David A. Clarke School of Law and Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. She was born and raised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. She is married to Luis A. Miranda, and they have three children.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and studied at the University of Florida where I deepened my understanding of Latine history in the US. There I learned how to advocate for the needs of Latine students and was involved in the creation of the Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures (also known as La Casita), which became a home away from home for many students.
