Senior Manager of Special Projects

Cynthia Chiou is the senior manager of special projects for StriveTogether. She serves as project manager for initiatives aimed at scaling supports that will accelerate the Cradle to Career Network toward equitable systems transformation.

Prior to StriveTogether, Cynthia was a proud public radio nerd serving as a project manager at Seattle’s NPR station, KUOW Public Radio. Throughout her time there, she helped storytellers and journalists launch innovative podcasts such as Battle Tactics for your Sexist Workplace and The Wild. As a member of KUOW’s racial equity committee, she helped launch key initiatives to amplify underrepresented voices in the community in order to challenge narratives that normalize systemic racism. She also worked on a wide array of audience development campaigns and digital transformation initiatives all to ultimately support the station’s mission to serve a more informed public.

Cynthia has a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from University of Washington. In her free time, she loves watching Hey Arnold! and checking out new parks with her partner and rescue pit bull Eddy.

What is a place that shaped you, and how does it give you purpose?

Seattle! I feel fortunate to have grown up in a city with such a vibrant local arts scene. As a teen, I distinctly remember volunteering on a committee for an all-ages music and arts venue The Vera Project and thinking just how powerful it was that youth voices like my own were valued by the community. This shaped me early on to believe in the power of people when they come together behind a shared vision. As a first-generation Taiwanese American, I now reflect on the value of do-it-yourself (DIY) culture and how it’s shaped me to advocate for a more inclusive world for youth no matter one’s background.
